Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker was born in 1976 in Tennessee and lives in Nashville. Before his 2003 $2.5 million World Series of Poker win, he was an accountant. His memoir, How An Amateur Poker Player Turned $40 Into $2.5 Million At The World Series Of Poker, details his thrilling experience at the WSOP, which vaulted him into a huge payday and a spot in poker history.
Chris Moneymaker had never played in a poker tournament before his WSOP Main Event victory, and truly was an amateur when he won. His victory in 2003 helped fuel poker’s meteoric rise in popularity as it served as an enticing example for many people to jump in and learn the game, hoping to repeat Moneymaker’s success.
