Gus Hansen

Most poker lovers have heard about “the Great Dane”: Gus Hansen. He is one of the most talked about professional poker players in the world, and you wouldn’t want to meet him at the poker table. However, he is a humble opponent and is rumored to be a lot of fun to be around. He is still young, and has a bright future ahead of him. Hansen is born in Denmark in the seventies, and actually begun his game career within Backgammon. After having played this for a long time, and gotten tired of winning, he decided that it was time to switch game. Seeing that he is a really good bluffer, he knew he would be helped by it when playing pro poker. And not just poker, but Texas Hold’em. During the 90’s, this game was exploding in popularity, and the Great Dane wasn’t late to join the fun. He went to New York were he participated in any poker game he could find, and developed his skills as much as he could. Today he holds many records within the poker world and is a very sought after poker player. Not only because of his great skills, but also because of his looks. Fact of the matter is that the Great Dane has become the favorite bachelor of the poker world, since he is young, handsome and single. Who knows how many young women have started playing Texas Hold’em with the hopes of one day meeting Gus Hansen in a poker game. And there are many poker games. Hansen joins in all the larger tournaments in the world, in particular in Las Vegas where he now resides. He has claimed that he sometimes misses his home country – Denmark – but his chances of meeting worthy opponents is much slimmer there. So he divides his time between New York and Las Vegas (where he of course only stays at the very best hotels and mansions!) He is also on the poker tour walk of fame, together with among others Doyle Brunson. He is of course a millionaire also, both from casino games, tournaments, online rakeback and online winnings. But despite all this – the women, the fame, the success and the money – he still remains humble and shy in the spotlight. Of course it is important to maintain a certain image when it comes to becoming a poker star, but Hansen pulls this off without breaking a sweat.

All in all, a great star, still on the rising.
