Playing WSOP

If you’re going to the states this summer be sure to visit Las Vegas for this year’s edition of WSOP. Since the WSOP is so much more than just the main event you’re bound to find a tournament that you like. The main event is of course the biggest one and also the one that would be the most prestige to win. Last year nearly seven thousand players competed for nine million dollars and the winner was Peter Eastgate. With a lot of luck even a fairly new player at the scene can get very far in this poker tournament.

Ever since the rookie Chris Moneymaker got lucky in 2003 the tournaments popularity has exploded and the number of players have increased from year to year. With a buy-in of 10 000 dollars the main event is however not the most expensive tournament any longer. Five times that amount does the H.O.R.S.E event cost to take part in. In this event you won’t far by knowing just how to play Texas NL. You have to know the games Omaha eight or better, Razz, Seven card stud and seven card stud eight or better. This event is popular among the pros since it is so hard to play all the versions of the game well. And that makes it a hard tournament for beginners to get far in.

If you want to play a WSOP tournament and take a shot at winning a bracelet but can’t afford that much there are cheaper options to. The cheapest chance of winning a bracelet is the 500 dollar tournament and it will most likely attract many players. Many of the events are also televised and it has helped to improve the popularity of the tournaments when people at home have been able to follow their stars at the tables.

Winning the WSOP will earn you the title of world champion in poker but it’s not a much approved title for the winner. Since an amateur can get very lucky for a couple of days and win the whole thing many instead chooses to rank player by how many WSOP bracelets they have. Many professional poker players never receive this diamond and gold covered bracelet and winning one is well respected. The one with the most bracelets is Phil Hellmuth that has won the staggering amount of 11 in his career. When it comes down to numbers of played final tables not that many can compete with Daniel Negreanu. He has in his years of playing poker been seated at the WSOP final tables no less than five times. But when the amount of players is so many and there are many players that aren’t professional its almost bond to be and amateur among the final table. By the beginning of July this year we will know who can call themselves the world champion in poker.
