Suit and the Blinds

Couple of things have been bothering my mind for some time now. Actually, they are not that complicated, but I don’t know. I can’t find any exact answer for them.

First, when comparing or ranking cards, does suit totally matter or is it just the number actually? In another way around, would AhKhQhJh10h beat AcKcQcJc10c? Or else a Kh high card over a Ks high card? I’m confused.

Second, can the next player after the blinds look at their first 2 cards, before they actually spent a penny? Similarly, could I have a game where everybody fold and only the blinds money were in the pot? Any idea?

Thank you.

Johannes

Johannes,

Suit does not matter in the ranking of cards. In your example above, the players holding those hands would split the pot.

Next, players can look at their cards before putting any money in the pot. In fact player put money into the pot based on how well they like their hands in most cases. If players had to put up money before receiving cards, they would be playing blackjack and not holdem.

In regards to your last question, yes, it is possible to just have the money from the blinds in the pot. Sometimes the small blind will fold and the big blind will only win the small blind.
