World Series of Poker – The Real Picture II
Now with the basic understanding of the WSOP rules, you can move on to see what lies ahead. There are a few more which you need to understand before you set go to play in WSOP. Let’s look at some of the playing restrictions.
1. A player is not allowed to leave the table and must be at the table by the time all players have completed their hands in case he wants to keep his hand active. It’s mandatory for the players to be at the table to call in time. In case of flop games, the big blinds will be called dead if the player is not at the table and does not act before the flop.
Similarly in stud games the forced low hand will be considered dead if the player is not at the table and when he is required to put in the money into the pot. In situation like these, the minimum bring in is posted and the hand is killed).
2. In Limit games, an over sized chip will be considered to be a call if the players do not raise and in no limit, an over sized chip before the flop is considered a call. The one after the flop will be the size of the bet. In case of pot limit and no limit, if a player calls a raise and throws in an over sized chip, then the raise will be the maximum amount permissible to that of the size of that chip.
3. The one player to the hand is compulsory in WSOP.
4. No additional/foreign chip will be allowed on the table except for a one card cap.
5. After the time has elapsed in a particular round and a new one is declared, new limits will be applicable immediately.
6. It’s mandatory for a player not to miss a hand. In case a player aims to re-buy before the first case is dealt, he is considered playing behind and is obliged to make the re-buy.
7. The chips with the highest denomination should be kept visible to all players at all times.
8. Any player found to be intentionally miscalling will be penalized.
9. Players cannot avoid blinds intentionally. Any player who intentionally avoids his blinds when moving from a broken table will loose the blinds and may incur a penalty. The penalty amount will be put into the next pot and will be considered dead money.
These rules are put in place so as to ensure that none of the players can avoid the game while they are in a bad position. Any intentional foul play is controlled through these rules and this is what enables a smooth game. There are many more rules which are followed in WSOP and these can be found in the later editions.
