WSOP – An Unbelievable Ride

The World Series of Poker is a kind of ultimate experience for poker players from around the world. Wondering what WSOP is? It is an annual series of poker tournaments held for years in the shoe in Las Vegas.

It was originally organized by Jack Binion, and some of the biggest names in poker at the time, including Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim, Johnny Moss and PUG Pearson. Johnny Moss took the opening two events, which attract fewer than 10 participants each, and rose $ 30,000 for their efforts. In the early years of the WSOP was a winner takes it all event.

These days, WSOP happens in Rio (except for the last 2 days of Main Event) in tandem with the growing popularity of poker. In 2005 there were 37 events of all types of poker: Pot Limit Omaha, Short-handed Hold’em,Omaha Hi-low, Limit Hold’em, seven-card stud, and even senior events. Besides the first place prize money, World Series of Poker event winners received the traditional gold and diamond bracelet as a trophy in each of the event.

But the glory and money was always with winning a major event. The event always attracts the best players from each year and in 2005 more than 5,600 participants were fighting for the 7.5 million U.S. dollar first prize. In 2006, more than 8,000 participants competed for 12 million U.S. dollar prize. The main event of more than 10,000 participants in 2007. Johnny Moss would think if he could see that today.

One is to marvel at the incredible numbers that World Series of Poker (WSOP) continues to be, despite evidence that would start the overall decline in popularity of poker. After all, poker does not seem inclined to have the stamina to do it once, with every half hour on television and over saturation down with everything from T-shirts and video poker games, to key rings.

In the 2009 WSOP schedule will be more difficult to continue with last year’s serial number of important new records. Despite the miserable world economy, the online poker market, which is still not fully overcome the consequences of the U.S. government’s obsession with the blocking of its citizens from online poker.

Nearly 58,000 players fighting for their share of more than $ 180000000 in total prize money over 55 events. This is really refreshing to see so many poker players still flock to the WSOP and poker stimulate the economy, showing that there is still one million at stake.

With a dominant professionals Chip Reese $ 50,000 HORSE event (Scotty Nguyen finished a bracelet last year) and further cementing his stature as a truly new and important event, I expect the 2009 WSOP schedule to continue to be built around this event.

It’s just interesting to look at players who know and have an opinion one way or another. This is the main reason why a high stakes poker player enjoys amazing success.
